Bleeding Tissue Paper Dot Art
This project is a creative way for children to experiment with color blending by creating unique dot art pieces with bleeding tissue paper. The results are beautiful watercolor-like effects. We’ve included white crayons to experiment with resist art techniques as well.
NOTE: Dye from the tissue paper may stain hands and surfaces so protective care should be taken.
Included Supplies:
White Paper Circles – 200 pieces
Bleeding Tissue Paper “Dots” in assorted colors – 2400 pieces
Spray Bottles for water – 12 bottles
White Crayons – 24 pieces – for creating “resist” designs, patterns, or words on the paper prior to adding the tissue dots for more fun! (you can also use other crayon colors as an alternative or in addition)
Activity:
Step 1 – Provide each participant with a piece of the round white paper and a selection of bleeding tissue paper dots. You can also allow them to select their own tissue dots. Be sure to keep the tissue paper away from any water before they begin the project.
Optional: Before adding the water & tissue dots, kids can use the white crayons to draw dot patterns, designs or words on the paper. Then, when they wet the paper and add the tissue paper dots, the areas with crayon will resist the color, creating interesting effects that will show through the dye.
Step 2 – Using the spray bottles, spritz the paper circle with water so that the surface is wet enough (but not dripping) to allow the tissue paper to adhere.
Step 3 – Encourage the children to arrange the tissue paper dots on their paper in any pattern or design they choose. They can overlap the dots, layer them, or spread them out. Almost immediately, the colors will start to bleed and blend together, creating a beautiful watercolor effect. Additional water can be sprayed onto the dot arrangement to ensure color transfer from the tissue to the white paper. Tissue pieces should be noticeably wet.
Lastly – Pieces can be removed while still wet or after the artwork is completely dry (preferred). The color will have transferred onto the art surface and a beautiful piece of artwork will emerge!
Have them sign their art using the included permanent markers.
Dot Stamp Painting
Included Supplies:
White Mini Canvases – 120 pieces
Washable Dot Paint Markers – 36 pieces
Activity:
Provide each participant with a blank canvas. Kids can then use any of the assorted color washable paint markers to make dot art on their canvas. They can experiment with overlapping dots, creating patterns, or even cover the entire canvas with dots…dots within dots, connecting dots, spiraling dots…. or even just one dot! They can also use the bleeding tissue paper dots to create art on the canvas. The bleeding technique will work on canvas too!
Have them sign their art using the included permanent markers.
Addional Ideas
