Learn how easy it is to make your own Dollar Store Pumpkin Box for your Fall home decor or as a fun Autumn gift!
When searching for pumpkin crafts on the internet, you can easily get overwhelmed by all the different options. For instance, you can make a wire pumpkin, sew fabric pumpkins, decorate faux pumpkins, and even makeover a real pumpkin.
Needless to say, all of these crafts can get pretty complicated and expensive fairly quickly.
If you are like me and just want to make a fun project that allows you to make cute inexpensive pumpkins, that you can add to your fall decor, then I have a project for you! Today I am showing you how to make a DIY Dollar Store Pumpkin Box that is made from a paper Mache box, some craft paint, and ribbon!

HOW TO MAKE DOLLAR STORE PUMPKIN BOX FOR FALL:
PAINTING PUMPKIN BOX:
1. Remove the lid from the bottom. Basecoat the round paper Mache box bottom and lid with light orange acrylic craft paint. Paint the inside and outside for a clean and finished project. Set aside to dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.
NOTE: I chose to create light orange pumpkins, but you could also make bright orange pumpkins instead.
2. Place the lid (or top of the box) back on the box bottom. Using a dry paintbrush, create lines in a wedge-shaped pattern with dark orange acrylic craft paint. Start in the center of the lid and continue down the edges of the box bottom. Think of it like cutting a pie into wedges.
DECORATING PUMPKIN BOX:
3. Attach a wood stem to the center of the box lid with a dab of hot glue (this will be your pumpkin stem). You could also use a wooden stem cut from a tree branch found in the yard or even wine corks!
NOTE: Liquid craft glue can be used for this project, but you would have to wait for it to dry.
4. Using scissors, cut teardrop shaped leaves from olive green craft felt. For polka dots, dip a new pencil eraser in light green acrylic craft paint and dot it onto the leaf. For stripes and plaids, use the edge of the paintbrush and gently stamp onto the felt for best results. Apply a small dot of glue at the base of the leaf and pinch to create dimension.
5. Measure and cut 6” lengths of natural jute twine and a variety of black ribbons, lace, and trims. Gather and tie securely in a knot. Trim any long ends with scissors. This is a great way to use up scraps.
6. Finally, for the last step, attach the felt leaf and scrappy ribbon bow to the front center of the top of the pumpkin box with a glue gun and glue sticks.
In my book, you can never go wrong with a Dollar Store craft and this one did not disappoint! I loved how simple this DIY project was and how I can keep it up with my pumpkin decor all fall season long.
Now, if one pumpkin is just not enough for you, I totally understand! If you love this fun idea but want to take it up a notch, why not create a ”pumpkin patch” that includes a variety of pumpkin sizes?! To do this all you would need to do is buy a few more paper Mache boxes from the Dollar Store, but in different sizes. Plus, don’t get me started on paint color options – wouldn’t navy and orange be so pretty?!
The possibilities are truly endless and you can have so much fun making these little pumpkins your own!
