Easy Watercolor Craft Kit Activity – Nature Silhouette Designs

If you’re looking to dive into watercolor painting in your program, our Nature Silhousettes Watercolor Craft Kit makes it easy! With our special “resist” art design, your group will be able to create stunning nature silhouettes.
Our kit comes with 6 of each of 4 designs: palm trees, evergreen trees, elephants, and deer. Your group will get watercolor paints and brushes to get started. Just grab some cups of water, paper towels, and a flat work surface, and you’re all set for a fun and creative painting session!

Step By Step Instructions
Step 1) Start by planning out a color palette for your picture. Maybe you’re imagining a warm sunset with shades of yellow, orange, and red, or perhaps you have a unique color scheme in mind that perfectly complements your nature scene.
Step 2) Once you’ve chosen your colors, dip your brush in clean water and gently wet the watercolor pans to bring those beautiful hues to life.
Note: The special black “resist” design makes this nature silhouette easy to paint! Your can brush watercolor paint directly over the design and the paint will repel or “resist” sticking to the black printed areas.
Step 3) Set up your design on a flat work surface to keep the colors from running together. If you’re going for a soft, delicate look, use plenty of water to create light washes of color. For something more vibrant, apply the wet watercolor paint directly for a bold effect. To get the perfect shade, test your colors on a scrap piece of paper before painting your picture. And don’t forget to rinse your brush between colors to keep everything crisp and clean.
Tip: Some colors may leave an unwanted residue on the black printed areas, simply dab off while wet using a paper towel.
Step 4) Allow time for your finished picture to dry on a flat surface.
Note: If needed, flatten out a finished painting (that is dry) by placing under some heavy books for several hours.
