As summer once again slips away, it’s the perfect time to embrace the cozy charm of fall crafting. This month, we’re excited to share a captivating addition to our growing mushroom set: — Crepe Paper Amanita Mushrooms! Inspired by the iconic Amanita muscaria, this project brings a healthy dose of forest magic directly into your home.

Simply Cap-Tivating

Creating your Crepe Paper Amanita Mushrooms is an opportunity to escape into the relaxing world of nature-inspired crafts. This project is great for all skill levels, and we’ve added a few tricks to make this craft even easier. Once you’re ready to start your magical mushroom journey – meet us in the tutorial below!

The Amanita muscaria, or fly agaric mushroom, is one of the most recognized mushrooms in the world. Despite its ubiquitous appearance, this mushroom is also known for its toxicity, earning it a reputation as a “poisonous beauty.” While our Crepe Paper Amanita Mushrooms are safe to handle and admire, they capture all the captivating allure of these iconic fungi without the risks!

To bring this project fully to life, you’ll need our heavy crepe paper in shades of vanilla and ruby to beautifully capture the bold colors of the Amanita muscaria. The thick paper-covered stem wire will provide a sturdy base for your Crepe Paper Amanita Mushrooms, so they stand up nice and tall. And remember to use a curling tool to give your mushroom stems a natural, organic curve, just like the real ones that dot the forest floor. The texture of honeycomb paper makes crafting the thin gills under the mushroom cap surprisingly simple. Additionally, three coatings of matte Mod Podge give the crepe mushrooms a glossy, lifelike appearance. Lastly, the delicate white spots, or warts, are made by carefully placing tiny bits of stretched crepe paper onto the cap, adding that final touch of realism.

Once you’re finished, display your handmade mushrooms in a terrarium, use them as table décor, or include them in a fantastical fall centerpiece. If you like this project, check out our video for the Death Cap Mushroom for a little more fun with fungi.

However you choose to showcase your Crepe Paper Amanita Mushrooms — we’d love to get a peek! You can share your creation with us in our vibrant crafters’ community or on social media using #MadeWithLia.
